Be careful with using resistance training. Resistance training became popular back in the 1990s, and has stuck around today. One method that I see many people doing is tying a parachute type device to the end of a bat and swinging it so the parachute inflates, causing resistance. However, this is a quick way to pull a muscle and teach you very poor mechanics of bringing the bat through the zone effectively.
Youth Fielding Drills an integral part of teaching the defensive position. Of course, there are sets of baseball fielding drills that are unique to each of the nine fielding positions in the game of baseball. However, there are baseball drills common to all fielding positions. One of the key youth baseball drills in catching ground balls is to keep the fingers of the fielding glove on the ground for ground balls, and raising the glove to catch the ball on the bounce, instead of lowering the glove. Another one of the instructional keys to fielding is to catch the thrown or batted ball with the wrist in an upward position for balls at or above the waist, and to turn the wrist upside down to catch balls below the waist. There are many ways to take a single drill and apply it so the whole team can practice at once.
Let me explain. Scoring baseball games means keeping an account, on a score sheet, of what happens in the game. Some people just keep track of outs, hits and scores. That’s fine and a good place to start, but my breakthrough to understanding was the result of tracking every pitch. I liked to say that I could reconstruct an entire game with my scorebook. That’s a helpful tool because you do not know what play will end up being particularly important. An outfielder’s assist in the third inning might prove to be a pivotal point. You’ll see that more clearly when you’re able to review the entire game after the fact.
