Developing good mechanics all begins at the balance point. This is probably one of the most poorly misunderstood aspects of the mechanics. Some pitching “experts” teach pitchers to reach a balance point at the peak of their leg lift. This is technique is absolutely detrimental to velocity, and no high velocity MLB pitcher reaches this so-called point of balance in their delivery. Professional pitchers are balanced throughout their delivery, but most importantly, they are moving towards the plate at each state of their mechanics. The traditional balance point idea is that pitchers should be perpendicular with their weight shifted over the drive leg. This technique is an absolute velocity killer.
And each pitch is like a chess move. You’ve thrown two fastballs in a row, so you might come in with a curveball to throw off the batter’s timing. However, he’ll expect that, so maybe you’ll throw a fastball inside before he can react to it. The catcher will signal to the pitcher what he thinks should happen; the pitcher might agree or might “shake him off” and consider the next suggestion. Or the coach signals the catcher what to do and he passes it on to the pitcher.
There is more to choosing a baseball glove than most people might think. Remember to do your research and understand the proper sizing when making your choice. Keep in mind the positions you will be playing. Always make sure to try on as many brands and styles as you can that way you can find what is most comfortable to you. Most of all just have fun and figure out what you prefer. If you have any questions you can go to Baseball Training Aids Plus.
