Why? Well, I saw good teams play, but the main reason was not that simple. I learned more about what goes on in the game, the many decisions that are made, and the numerous and small factors that determine the outcome of each play and, eventually, the game. Scoring baseball games was the key.
If you are able to locate your off-speed consistently, then this is a great opportunity to throw a changeup, slider, or curveball. By doing so, this will keep the batter off-balance and guessing. 0-1 changeups are excellent because the batter thinks you are throwing a meat fastball, but instead its 6-10 mph slower and sharply breaking downward. The result? The batter will probably swing over the top of the ball or will be way out in front of the pitch. You can have a similar result by throwing a sharp breaking slider or cutter that starts down the middle of the plate, and breaks away toward the outer half.
