If you have executed proper back leg drive, then you are almost guaranteed to increase your stride speed. The faster you move your body sideways, the faster you will throw. Also, the faster the stride, the longer your stride will be. Once your foot strikes the ground you will transition into the most important aspect of the pitching mechanics: hip to shoulder separation. Hip to shoulder separation is responsible for about 80 percent of a pitchers potential velocity. At foot strike, your hips should be completely open towards home, and your upper body should still be closed. The greater the separation between the two haves, the more velocity you will be able to generate. Always use a camera when analyzing this part or any part of your mechanics. This is truly the only way to effectively improve your pitching mechanics.
When you’re scoring baseball games, you start to pick up on these and many other finer points on the field. You will find the game much more enjoyable to watch and to discuss with your kids or other spectators. It is not such a boring game, after all.
If you have successfully thrown a strike or got the batter to commit to swinging, then you will have entered the best count for a pitcher. The 0-2 count every pitchers favorite count because they can practically toy with the opposing batter. Keep in mind, the batter also has some strategies for this particular pitch count. Typically, batters will crowd the plate and will choke up on the bat because they are either trying to get hit by the pitch or just trying to make some form of contact. However, this also works to your advantage because the hitter will also be more aggressive in this situation.
